A sad fact about your comments

Dear readers, I owe you an apology. You see, when I created this blog, I decided to enable the "Google+ comment system." I thought this would be a a good idea, but it wasn't. You who have read and commented have taught me why, and I want to make it up to you. Here are three of the main problems I encountered along with their solutions and what you helped me learn.

Problem 1: No notifications

Can you believe that? I actually missed some of your comments because the system didn't notify me when you generously shared your thoughts. Not good. Not good at all. I apologize for not responding to all of you and offer this as my excuse.

Solution: I've installed the Disqus commenting system. I'll get notifications whenever comments are made so I can get back to you in a timely manner.

Problem 2: Google+ required

I love Google. I love Google+. No surprises there! However, I don't want to discriminate based on what social media platform you use and love.

Solution: You can now log in to leave a comment using Google, Facebook, Twitter, or just your name and email address.

Problem 3: Vanishing comments

This, to me, is the biggest problem of them all. Since disabling Google+ comments, your thoughts have vanished from my blog. Sadness! They still exist in Google+, but that's not where they are important. They are important here, where the conversation happens. They should be saved and treasured for everyone to see and reference. You are the brains behind this thing, anyway.

Solution: This one is not so easy. Although your previous comments still exist in the Google+ universe, they won't show up here. Your only option would be to find them and repost them here with the new system, which is ridiculous. So I apologize for that. Going forward, they will be preserved and given the true honor they deserve.

What you helped me learn

If it sounds like this is a bigger deal to me than it should be, you're observing the consequences of a great discovery. I don't blog for a living. I don't blog for fame. Or even as a personal journal. Pageviews? Sponsorship? Nope. I blog because I love sharing ideas with you, and because I love it when you share ideas back. Thank you. I look forward to a far better experience moving forward.
