Sensory adaptation and souls

How do we miss so many moments that matter so much? I find it paradoxical. The things that matter most in life do not seem to matter at all as we experience them in the moment. The fact is, we humans are programmed this way. We automatically tune out things to which we become accustomed. It's called sensory adaptation. This phenomenon affects our vision, hearing, smell, taste, and touch. It also affects our souls.

We would do well to slow down a little, focus on the significant, lift up our eyes, and truly see the things that matter most.
