Sharing what we learn

The larger the island of knowledge, the longer the shoreline of wonder.
~Ralph W. Sockman

You’ll notice a box in the sidebar entitled “What am I reading?” This box displays links to articles I have recently read and found to be interesting, enlightening, funny, or informative. I do my best to stay informed about news, politics, culture, etc. both at home and abroad. Of course, the limitless amount of information available online and in other media forces us to be selective about what we learn. So, my “What am I reading?” box does not provide a comprehensive source of information on any particular subject. Rather, it displays what are, in my view, the most interesting tidbits on many subjects. I subscribe to topics ranging from international news to poetry to humor to technology. I sincerely hope that you’ll take the time to peruse them periodically.

Why? To learn. The Lord has asked us to learn, to be aware, to study “things both in heaven and in the Earth and under the earth; things which have been, things which are, things which must shortly come to pass; things which are at home, things which are abroad; the wars and the perplexities of the nations, and the judgments which are on the land; and a knowledge also of countries and of kingdoms” (Doctrine and Covenants 88:79).

I desire to be well rounded and well versed in art, literature, history, etc. I have a long, long way to go, but you can help me in this endeavor. I am interested not only in my own opinions and views, but also in yours. It’s impossible to be well rounded on your own. I want to know what interests you—what you find of worth.

I use Google Reader to organize and share the information I want to read. If you’ve never used a feed reader to get your news before, watch a short video to find out how. I invite you to be more aware of the world around you by reading more. I also want to know what you are learning, so please share your interesting tidbits with me!
