Here are a few simple truths that shape the way I act every day. They inspire me to develop my personal relationship with God through sincere prayer.
- God lives; He is our Heavenly Father. I view my relationship with my dad as a model for understanding my relationship with God. I love my dad very much because he loves me. He serves me and has sacrificed very much in this life to provide for my happiness. He counsels me and gives me advice, but allows me to make my own decisions. He is very happy when he sees the good choices I make. When I make poor choices, he is sad and often disappointed, but he supports me and helps me get back on my feet.
- God created all things. This earth is a beautiful place full of bountiful resources. Because the Earth is God’s creation, I respect it by using its resources in moderation. My views of environmental politics are informed by the idea that God expects us to use the resources of the Earth wisely and share them generously with others.
- God knows all the thoughts and intents of our heart. I am accountable to God for how I use my time on Earth. I report to Him each night in prayer and repent for thoughts, actions, or intents that were not in line with His commandments. This accountability drives me to improve myself each day.
- God loves us endlessly. I feel God’s love in all the world around me. I feel it in a beautiful sunset or a cool rainstorm. I feel it in the company of good friends. I also feel God’s true love during the hard times of this life. I recognize sorrow, disappointment, and pain as a necessary part of my personal growth, and as an invitation to rely more on Jesus Christ, the Son of God.
